The
Earth is 4600 million years old and its history is divided up into
geological periods, each of which spans several tens of millions of
years.
The diagram shows extinct organisms that were typical of some of the
periods and illustrates the fact that the Isle of Man area has moved
across the globe from south to north over the last 500 million years
and has been shaped by specific geological events.
