Numerous types of fossils can be found in the Castletown Limestone. These represent species of shelly organisms now extinct.

This example to the left is a solitary coral which was originally loosely attached to the sea bed at its pointed end. A soft-bodied polyp lived at the other end and secreted the calcite which makes up the fossil
